A New Deal for Teachers

The NASUWT is currently campaigning for a New Deal for Teachers and for our members to Make Change Happen on 4th July.

Make Change Happen on 4th July 2024

As postal votes begin landing on door mats this week for the upcoming general election on Thursday 4th July 2024, we wanted to provide you with some key information to consider. The outcome of the general election must be a turning point for the future of our schools and colleges and for the future of the teaching profession.

A new deal for teachers on pay, workload, working hours and wellbeing will only be secured when there is a government in Westminster that is on the side of teachers, education and public services. This election matters, not just for education in England, but across the UK. NASUWT will be campaigning to ensure that the next government will commit to ending the teacher recruitment and retention crisis and ensuring that every child is taught by qualified teachers alongside our other asks as laid out in our manifesto.

We know the scale of the challenge any new Government will face. We’re not asking for quick fixes. Our members want lasting solutions that will repair our broken schools and colleges. We want politicians who will champion teachers and that will deliver a promise to secure the future of our profession.

It’s not enough to hope for the best. We all need to play our part in making change happen on 4th July 2024 and that work begins today.

There are things you can do:

  • The deadline to register to vote has now passed as has the deadline to register for a postal vote.
  • If you choose to vote in person on 4th July, make sure you take an accepted form of identification or you will not be able to vote.
  • Look out for a regular series of materials from your Union to support you in making the voice of teachers heard.

The message has come back loud and clear from our members: teachers are angry, frustrated and believe the change we need can only come from a new government that is committed to delivering a new deal for teachers.

Together we can Make Change Happen and secure a New Deal for Teachers.

We know we speak for the teaching profession on this, so speak to your colleagues and encourage them to Join Us and Join In and be a part of The Teachers’ Union.
